Privacy Policy

Introduction

Notturno (the "App") is developed and operated by Matteo Crippa ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our application.

The App is a Safari web extension that applies dark mode to the web pages you visit in Safari. Privacy is a core design principle — the App requires no account, has no server, collects no personal data, and processes every page entirely on your Mac.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number, and the App requires no account, sign-in, or registration.

Why the App Needs Webpage Access

Dark mode has to be applied to a page itself, so the App needs Safari's permission to read and modify webpages. That access is used for one purpose: to read the structure and colours of the page you are currently looking at, and to restyle it. Nothing else is done with it.

Page content is read in the page as it renders, recoloured locally, and discarded. The App has no code path that copies page content anywhere.

Information Stored on Your Mac

The App stores the following data locally, in Safari's own extension storage and in the page's own local storage:

The App's own data is removed when you delete the App. The per-site decision cache above is the one exception, and it is removed by clearing Safari's website data for that site.

What Leaves Your Mac

Nothing. The App contains no networking code. It does not upload, transmit, synchronise, or share anything — not page content, not browsing history, not the URLs you visit, not analytics, not crash reports.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or share:

How the App Works

The App is a rendering engine that runs inside Safari. For each page you visit, entirely on your device:

All of this happens locally, in your browser, as you browse.

How We Use Your Information

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to the App's functionality. We do not sell your information.

Legal Basis for Processing

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on the following legal bases:

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and no personal data is collected. There is no personal data to share.

Third-Party Services

The App contains no third-party analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs. Specifically: no Firebase, no Sentry, no Crashlytics, no Google Analytics, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, no AdMob, no social media SDKs, no payment processors, and no remote configuration or A/B testing frameworks.

The App also declares no networking entitlement, so it is not capable of making network requests at all.

We may disclose information only if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process. In the unlikely event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, no personal user data would be transferred because no personal user data is collected.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The App uses no cookies or any form of tracking technology. There are no web views, no cookie storage, no advertising identifiers, and no fingerprinting mechanisms. A small marker may be written into a page's own local storage for technical reasons described above; it is not a cookie, it is not readable by other apps, and it carries no identifier.

Data Security

We implement the following measures to protect your information:

No system is 100% secure, but because no personal data leaves your device, there is no personal data on our servers to breach.

Data Retention

DataStorageRetention
Master and per-site switchesOn-device (Safari extension storage)Until changed or the App is deleted
Page performance recordsOn-device (Safari extension storage)Until changed or the App is deleted
Per-site decision cacheOn-device (page local storage)Short-lived; cleared by clearing Safari's website data for the site — not by uninstalling

Because nothing is transmitted to us, there is no retention period to state on any server. Deleting the App removes everything it owns; the per-site decision cache is removed by clearing Safari's website data for the site.

Your Rights

Under GDPR and applicable privacy laws, you have the following rights:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

International Data Transfers

Not applicable. No personal data is transmitted to us or to any third party, so no data is transferred across borders.

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13 (or the applicable age threshold in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children — in fact, we do not collect personal information from any user regardless of age.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice through the application.

Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of Italy. The following privacy laws apply to our processing of your data:

Jurisdiction-specific rights (CCPA, CPRA, etc.) for users outside the EU are acknowledged; however, because we collect no personal data and do not sell data, no additional compliance measures are triggered.
